Itachi failed to defeat his brother Sasuke despite of his great powers. It was revealed that the real intention is that, Itachi was not trying to defeat Sasuke. He was waiting for Orochimaru when all of Sasuke’s chakra were worn outbecause the real goal of Itachi was to remove the cursed mark from his brother.
