Ukrop's acquisition
Richmond, Dec 17, 2009 – The Richmond-based Ukrops supermarket has been sold to Giant-Carlisle, a company from The Netherlands. The Netherlands company will take over 25 Ukrops stores and hire its staff, according to buzz released Thursday afternoon.
Giant-Carlise, a subsidiary of Royal Ahold USA paid $140 million for the 25 supermarket and expected to close the sale in the first quarter of 2010. The Royal Ahold already operates more than 150 Giant and Martin’s supermarkets in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
Western Virginia Ukrop’s lone store will closed this fall.
