Mayon Volcano eruptions

Philippines, Dec 21, 2009 – Mayon Volcano alert level was been left to 5-point scale, Phivolcs says that eruption is in progress after low-frequency seismic quakes were recorded in the area surrounding the volcano.
Authorities have also widen the area of the volcano’s danger zones to 8 kms. radius on its southern region, and 7 kms. radius on the north.
Phivolcs have registered about 222 volcanic quakes, that produced a grayish vertical ash column on Mayon’s crater that extended about 0.5 km. above its peak. The volcano increased dramatically the emission of sulfur dioxide is a sign of an eruption, according to Phivolcs.
The military is tighten the controls in the surrounding areas of volcano, making sure that all was evacuated and no one left in danger zones, no one will be allowed in also.
Mayon Volcano is situated in Albay, Philippines, and it was known for near-perfect cone shape. Mayon’s most destructive eruption happened in February 1, 1814, where approximately 1200 persons died from the lava and ashfall.
