Athens, November 20, 2009 – Uga 7 Mascot or Uga VII died Thursday of heart-related causes according to Sonny Seiler, dog’s owner. Uga nicknamed “Loran’s Best,” is a white English bulldog mascot for the University of Georgia’s football team.
The 56-pound dog, was known as a laid-back mascot who seemed oblivious to crowd noise during boisterous football games for almost two seasons.
According to school, there would be no mascot at Saturday’s game in Athens against Kentucky, Southeastern Conference rival. Seiler said he likely wouldn’t name a mascot replacement until next year.
Uga VII was the latest in a line of mascots that have been fronted Newsweek, Sports Illustrated, Time and in several movies. The dog was also was a compelling symbol for team fans across the nation, said school’s athletic director, Damon Evans.
